For the meeting of the board I prepared a draft agenda which I send you with this E-mail. Also I wrote a words to help us talking about the future of the IFWP. I am looking forward to have a discussion with you about this.
I am not sure if I have al the right E-mail adresses, and some people might get this mail on two adresses. If I didn't send this to the right person please be so kind to forward it to the right one. If you have any questions, remarks, or what so ever, don't hesitate to mail or call me!

About: Update and preparation for the IFWP meeting in Hungary june 2007-05-30
Dear members of the council,
I hereby would like to give you some information about the actions from my side last year and a draft agenda for the meeting that we will have on the 23th of June.
Update from the president
2006/2007 has been an interesting year again. A lot of things did happen, and a lot of things didn’t. Before we go into that, first a few (more personal) words from my side.
First of all I would like to explain that I enjoy (and am actually honoured) being your president!. But, to be honest too, it is hard to get things going within the IFWP. This is not meant to be a negative response, but just a simple fact. I think it has to do with a few different things:
It is hard to communicate with people from 12 different organisations and 11 different countries, and not everybody is fluent in English;
It’s hard to put in a lot of energy when you are also having a very busy international job …, three small children and a house under construction ;-);
It was difficult to get the financial stuff organised …, for example, opening an international bank account in the Netherlands;
Most of us seem to be very interested in coming to our annual meetings, but not to much in work or information in between these meetings;
This means, for example, that when I send an e-mail to the council, I get a response from two, maximum three members!
But … this doesn’t mean that nothing has happened.
- In January I went to the congress of the International League of Conservation Photographers (so did Marjolijn). A very interesting congress, with possibly more future activities. An update this will be given during the meeting;
- This was also a congress where we got a presentation about a great new European Naturephotoproject, called Wild Wonders of Europe. At our meeting I hope to give a presentation about this project;
- At this congress we also contacted a lot of people, for example from the Photofestival in Montier en Der in France. This might be interesting for photographers from the IFWP as well;
- I went to the GDT festival in Lunen to talk to them about membership of IFWP. Had some good discussions. They are not convinced yet that they have to join the IFWP, but there is definitely communication and we see possibilities;
- I also talked to the NVN (the Dutch Nature Photographers Association);
- We were approached by a Spanish organisation of nature photographers. We (as well the Hungarians, as myself, responded by E-mail, but didn’t hear anything after that;
- We also were approached by an individual photographer from India. What to do with that?;
- I became boardmember of Eurosite (
www.eurosite.org), this also means that I see possibilities of combining the work of nature conservation organisations and nature photography …;
- David (our treasurer) and I finally worked out opening a bank account. It is Postbank nr. 4959005 t.a.v. IFWP. Before we send the invoices however, we would like to talk about it in the council meeting;
- The website has been well taken care of by Marjolijn. It has been updated regularly, but, more is possible.
Draft agenda for the meeting on the 23rd of June
During our meeting at the 23rd of June, I would like to talk about the future of the IFWP. What do we expect from it? What to do with the difference between the nature photographers and the (more or less) professional nature photographers. What kind of activities do we like to see organized by IFWP? Workshops? Exhibitions? Forum on the Internet? Annual meetings? Do we need to grow actively? Approach other organisations in other countries?…. Etcetera.
Enough to talk about, I think.
I suggest to work with the following agenda. Any commends, suggestions or extra items are welcome, of course!
1. Opening and decision on the agenda
2. Minutes General Meeting in Slovakia 2006
3. Review on activities 2006 – 2007: IFWP and member organisations (3 minutes per organisation)
4. Financial report; decision on sending invoices 2005, 2006 and 2007
5. Discussion on the future of IFWP: expectations, possibilities and challenges …
a. How active do we want to expand?
b. What else do we want to do besides the annual meetings?
c. Working with a response group (or daily board) from the council;
d. Publicity;
e. What do we expect from the website?
6. ILCP, possible cooperation, including Wild Wonders Of Europe project
7. Next meeting
8. Anything else
9. Final remarks and closing
So far for this update and the preparation for the meeting in Hungary. I am really looking forward to coming to Hungary, but especially to seeing all of you again! Till then, take care!
